As far as photography goes 1964 was my start date (I got an Instamatic for Christmas - that little "open me first" gift started a lot of photography careers it seems). At 20 I trained at an audio-visual unit in photography, cinematography and television production. Since then I've had experience as a field photographer, TV cameraman, lab tech, photo librarian and gallery director. I attended a number of art schools but took my BA from the University of Saskatchewan in 1987 (Fine Art). Other schools include the University of Calgary, the Instituto Allende (Mexico), and the Banff Centre, more of a "finishing school" for career artists. Actually then, 1979, they offered what might best be described as a networking opportunity for professional artists over two, all-expenses-paid, years. Nice work if you can get it. Unfortunately the building housing the photography division was gutted by fire shortly after I received my scholarship, but not before I and my production team, Bob² Productions, finished our first project, "Dyke Bridge, Chappaquiddick" - a wry look at the history of one certain Kennedy through the admiring eyes of Sgt. Arena, investigating officer. But I get ahead of myself. Or caught in the muck of memories. I live on Vancouver Island, off the west coast of Canada. A great deal of my time is spent scheming how to get off. Fortunately, I have not yet met with success. If you would like to contact me, do so here. That's me on the left by the way. |
